Forbidden Love

Kyliska Sunblade stood in Eversong Woods overlooking the beautiful water. This is the hill where she would wait for Andissiel Moonblade to come to her. Kyli found herself falling in love with Andi. She did not expect or want this. It made her life a lot more complicated than she wanted it to be. Biara and Kyli had a plan, they were going to seduce Andi and have him become a spy for them. That was the plan all along. Kyli agreed to this even though she felt unsure since her mother fell in love with a Kaldorei and became a traitor to her race. Kyli would never betray her people but she was still wary. People already thought that Kyli would follow in her mother’s footsteps, and she did not want to prove them right.

She started to meet with Andi on a regular basis, and at first she felt nothing. She was following the plan, gaining his trust, having him fall for her. She did not have to try hard, he fell in love with her rather quickly. Despite herself she started to feel something for the Kaldorei. He was so open to her, so nice, and accepted her for who she was. All of her flaws, her constant fighting against the Alliance and his sister, and he didn’t care. He knew that was a part of who she was, and he just accepted her. Kyli didn’t understand it herself. She had tried to kill his sister Elunearia many times, yet he understood. Kyli didn’t think she would feel the same way if he tried to kill Biara. She told him about her mother and about being half Kaldorei herself, and he didn’t care. He just loved her for who she was, completely.

It was a very innocent romance. They would sleep under the stars in the woods. Andi would hold Kyli in his strong embrace as they fell asleep side by side. They shared a few kisses, but nothing more. Kyli felt safe with Andi. She noticed that a kinder side of herself was starting to emerge the more time she spent with him. A side of herself that she never knew existed. She found herself missing him when she was away from him. Her heart ached until she could see him again. She had strong feelings for Hauk, and probably always will, but this was the first time that she actually started to feel these feelings for someone else.

Kyliska knew that she could never tell anyone of this secret relationship. No one would understand. A Sin’dorei and a Kaldorei should not be together. They were at war, on opposite factions. It was a forbidden love, and could never be public. Kyli was willing to accept this and Andi was as well. He would rather have her in secret than not at all. Maybe someday they could come forward with their relationship, but not at this time. No one could know. It would mean exile for them both. Kyli could not bear to have her sister hate her, or Hauk.

Everything changed though. Kyli had been keeping secrets from her sister. This all started because of the Bloodthistle habit that Kyli had aquired by accident. She had terrible withdrawals that Hauk tried to help her with. She ended up taking the cowardly, easy way out and had Galvan make her some pills that would help ease the symptoms. Hauk was extremely disappointed in Kyli for not being brave enough to handle the withdrawals. He had spent so much time with her helping her work through the withdrawals. He felt that she was strong enough to be able to handle it. She thought she was too, but it became too much for her. She was ashamed of herself too.

It was at that moment that she realized that she needed to tell Biara about her addiction. Her sister would understand and possibly help her. Biara was upset that Kyli was keeping something from her. Biara saw Hauk and her talking and knew they were hiding something from her. Kyli knew she should be honest with her sister though and was going to try to find her to explain everything but couldn’t find her after her talk with Hauk.

Kyliska decided to meet with Andi on their hill in Eversong. She had a rough night with Hauk and Biara both being upset with her. She needed to be with Andi where she felt safe and she knew that he would understand and just hold her as she poured her heart out to him. She didn’t know that Biara had followed her. She caught them kissing and started to yell at them. Biara’s eyes were filled with hatred as she glared at Kyli. Kyli had never seen her sister so upset. The only other time was when she found out about Kyli’s heritage and being half Kaldorei. She said she was a traitorous bitch just like her mother Sassariel. The words stunned Kyli, she begged and pleaded with Biara that she would never betray their people. Yes she loved Andi, but she would never become a traitor like her mother, she was NOT her mother!

Biara was so mad and overcome with emotion that she slapped Kyli hard. Andi then became defensive of Kyli and started to shoot Biara with arrows. That is when things went terribly wrong. Kyli didn’t know what to do. She screamed for them to stop and then Hauk and Noxu rode up. She had no idea how they even knew where they were. Suddenly everything seemed to happen in slow motion. Biara performed a defensive spell and suddenly Kyli felt herself begin to fall off of the cliff. As Kyli was thrown from the cliff, the last thing she saw was Hauk shooting Andi to death. Their eyes locked for a brief second and then Kyli’s body fell into the water and was taken away by the current. Hauk screamed at Biara, asking why she did that, and then ran down the hill to try to find out where Kyli’s body had fallen.
* * *
Kyliska could hear waves crashing. She could not see anything, she did not know why. Was this real? Where was she? Why could she not move her body? The pain was unbearable. She vaguely remembered the events of last night. Terrible things happened. Biara. Biara tried to kill her. She had caught Kyli and Andi together kissing, and she overreacted. She had called her a traitor, just like her mother. She slapped Kyli and then Andi came to her defense and shot at Biara, and that is when Biara threw Kyli off the cliff. Was it an accident? Did Biara mean to do that? Kyli didn't know. Hauk and Noxu rode up as well. Kyli remembered that the last thing she saw as she was thrown off the cliff was Hauk shooting Andi dead.

Kyliska felt something wet on her body, it must be water she thought. She tried to will her eyes to open but it was hard. She was barely breathing, and exerting any extra energy was not a good idea. It was so cold. Her whole body was soaked. Had she fallen in the water after being shot by Biara? After she had fallen, she didn't remember anything. Kyli's heart was breaking, her sister didn't love her, Andi was dead, Hauk and Noxu probably hated her as well. If she lived through this she would have no one.

Kyli's heart started to beat slower. She almost welcomed death. She had nothing to live for anymore. Anyone who cared for her was either dead or would hate her when they found out about her relationship with Andi. The only true regret was the way she was going to die. She always thought it would be during battle, not like this. Fighting to protect her people and the ones she loved. Her last thought was hoping that Biara could forgive her, and know in her heart that Kyli was not a traitor even if she did fall in love with a Kaldorei.

Biara jumped from her undead steed, her feet landing in the tall grass amongst the ruins of Silvermoon City. Looking around, she whispered a word in the Language of Death and the horse faded away into the nothingness from which it had been summoned. The Magistrix walked slowly, her steps and heart heavy. A large bundle lay in her hands.

A shadow fell over Biara as she approached the statue of the Huntress of the Sun. The statue her father had created. The statue where her parents had died. So much history had occurred here. Biara had met lovers and foes, had cried and laughed beneath its shadow. And now she would visit it one more time, to say words she would have no one else here. She knelt in front of it, laying the bundle down and exposing the axe that was wrapped within the cloth. Kyliska's axe. The axe she would wield no more.

"Father. I know not whether you can hear me or not, but this day you would be ashamed of your daughter, your Biar'athiel. I have done many terrible things in my life, have taken the lives of many and created much harm in the world, but all of it was for a good cause. All if it was for our people."

Biara sighed, looking the axe over, her hands tracing the intricate designs on the handle before she continued. "All of that time, I was proud of what I had done, and knew you too would be proud of me, but no longer. I have become what I most feared to be. I have become everything mother would want me to be, and the little girl that you raised to be strong and wise has faded slowly within me over time. I...it is difficult for me to say anything, even to you, even knowing you might not even be there to hear me."

Biara took a deep breath, continuing, "My sister, the sister that you did not know in life, is dead by my hands. She has died in the fires of my passion, just like mother and all of the innocents in this place died so long ago. The cycle has completed, and I have taken up the mantle that mother wore upon her death. It is this deed, this act which shames me, which makes me afraid to ever face you again, should the time come that we are reunited."

"Know this my father. I will never again slay our people. I will not even fight for my own life against them if they seek justice for my sister's death. Even those who displease me will not be slain, only removed from power so as not to harm the greater whole of our mighty people, the Sin'dorei, born from Quel'dorei."

Biara leaned forward, dashing the palm of her hand on the edge of the raised axe blade. The cold steel bit deep, and her blood flowed freely from the wound, seeping into the soil near the base of the statue.

"This I swear Ann'da. Hear me and know that Biar'athiel still lives on. I will not let her spirit die completely, no matter how difficult the path ahead may be."

"Rest well. Rest in peace. Know that I will learn from my mistakes."

Biara rose, wiping tears from her eyes as she walked away. She summoned her dead steed and rode from the ruins. Distantly, behind her, the axe glimmered in the fading sunlight, the blade stained red with the blood of the Magistrix, and the oath she had sworn.
