Kyliska's Past

Kyliska Sunblade lay on the lush green grass of Eversong Woods. Her mind was at ease as she felt the suns rays fall onto her skin. She hadn’t had much time to relax lately. There was a lot of fighting being done, so she relished this much needed time to herself. As if the weather sensed this, clouds slowly covered the sun leaving Kyliska in the dark. She sighed as the first drops of rain hit her face. The sky was becoming more and more black, and there were low rumblings of thunder in the distance. She started to get up and make her way towards Silvermoon City when she heard the faintest sound. She paused and listened intently. The wind started to pick up with the incoming storm and the sound could be heard more clearly. It was wind chimes. The slow, deliberate sound of wind chimes. Kyliska stumbled and fell to the ground as her memories came rushing back to her.

Kyliska was walking with her mother in Eversong Woods. It was a beautiful day and Kyliska was happy. She hummed to herself as her mother would stop and pick some random flowers as they went. Kyliska couldn’t remember when she had been this happy. It took a lot of time for her to come to terms with her father’s death. He had died when the Scourge had attacked. Kyliska and her mother were lucky to have gotten out of the whole ordeal alive. She knew that her mother still felt great pain for the loss of her husband. They were married for many years and did everything together. Her mother was everything to her and she would do anything for her. They were always close but after her father had died they had an even more special bond.

“Ky, what are your plans for this evening?” her mother asked.
“Oh I’m not sure, I know Biara had mentioned some party, but I don’t want to leave you all alone.” Kyliska responded.
“Oh Ky, you must go to the party! I know how you love to spend time with Biara and you don’t have to worry about me. I will find something to do with myself.”

Kyliska sighed at her mother. She always felt responsible for her. She hated to leave her. Especially after the death of her father she liked to spend as much time with her as possible. She knew that she had to leave her alone sometimes, and she really did enjoy a good party.

“Oh alright mother I’ll go to the party!” Kyliska started. “But I promise I won’t be out too late!”
“Kyli, you know you can stay out as late as you want. I tend to fall asleep early anyway. Have fun and give Biara my best!” her mother said.

Kyliska hugged her mother tightly. “I must go home and find the best outfit to wear! I’ll see you later, I love you!”
“I love you too Ky.”

Kyliska was actually excited about this party. She hadn’t been to one in a while. She found the perfect red dress to wear, and now all she had to do was to figure out how to wear her long blonde hair. She was messing around in the mirror with different styles when she heard thunder in the distance. She let her hair fall onto her shoulders and looked outside. The wind was blowing the trees and then she heard thunder getting louder. The sky had darkened since her walk with her mother. A few hours must have passed. It seemed like just a few minutes! That was a sudden change, she thought to herself. Now my hair will get ruined on the way to the party! The rain began to fall.

Suddenly Kyliska got an uneasy feeling. Something wasn’t right, she couldn’t quite place her finger on it, but something was off. Then the wind seemed to stop and everything was very still. Silvermoon City was usually never this quiet, especially during a storm. She walked outside. It seemed that everyone went inside to hide from the storm. Kyliska became soaked by the rain but now she didn’t seem to care. She needed to find her mother.

Kyliska began to run. She knew where to find her mother. As she got there the wind and the rain picked up again. There was a loud bang of thunder and Kyliska screamed. Her mother lay in the grass just off the road. Behind her unmoving body was a Kal’dorei with a knife in her hand. Kyliska didn’t know what had come over her but she was no longer in control of her body. This sudden rage took over her as she saw her mother’s blood soak the grass below her. She ran and lunged at the Kal’dorei. The Kal’dorei had a look of shock on her face as Kyliska made contact with her and they both fell to the ground. Kyliska usually did not like to fight, but this “thing” hurt her mother and would have to pay!

They tumbled around in the grass, both throwing punches at each other. Kyliska ended up on top of the Kal’dorei and she knocked the knife away from her and stared at her enemy.
“Why, why would you do that to my mother!” she yelled. Lightning lit up the sky and the scared Kal’dorei’s face.
“Please don’t hurt me…..” she pleaded. The rain beat down on them both. Kyliska’s eyes were fierce and intent on hurting this Kal’dorei, and maybe even killing her. She had never felt these emotions before. Even when her father was killed she didn’t feel like this. This uncontrollable blood thirst to kill this enemy for hurting her mother was more than she could take.
“I won’t hurt you if you tell me why you would do this to her.” Kyliska screamed.
“I was sent here as a scout….and…..and….your mother had something that I was supposed to retrieve.” The Kal’dorei stuttered.
“What did she have that you could possibly want Kal’dorei?”
“A….a necklace…..”

Kyliska couldn’t stand it any longer. Her mother was killed over a necklace? She didn’t fully understand but then her rage took over her. She started to strangle the helpless Kal’dorei. The Kal’dorei struggled as much as she could but Kyliska was too strong for her, especially fueled with this uncontrolled anger. It felt like hours when suddenly the Kal’dorei stopped moving. Kyliska stood up staring at the lifeless body feeling no remorse for what she had done.

Then her world came crashing down on her as she turned to her mother. She fell to the ground and put her head to her mother’s chest to see if there was any sign of life left at all. Kyliska felt like she couldn’t breathe. The tears ran down her cheeks freely and she mourned the loss of her mother. She became hysterical, sobbing and not being able to stop. Her only family was now gone. Her best friend and mother. She didn’t know what to do. She didn’t feel like she could go on living any more. If only she hadn’t agreed to go to that party. She would have still been with her mother and she could have saved her. The guilt and the grief was too much for Kyliska to take. Her chest hurt. It was getting harder and harder to breathe, and she realized that her heart was breaking.

Through her sobs she let out a blood curdling scream. Kyliska’s body couldn’t take anymore and she fainted. Blood Knight Guards of Silvermoon came running towards her.
“My lady…” they started and then they saw Kyliska’s body laying beside her mother. They picked up her body and carried her towards Silvermoon City. Another Blood Knight picked up her mother and followed them. Wind chimes could be heard faintly. They were slow and deliberate as if someone were playing them. They seared into Kyliska’s memory even though she was not conscious. The rain washed away the blood that had fallen that day.
Kyliska was back in the present day. She was overcome with emotion from her memories. She usually tried to push her emotions down and not let anyone know of them. She was a Blood Knight and would not let emotions get in the way of her fighting. She picked herself up and walked over to the wind chimes that brought back the terrible memories. She unsheathed her ax and slashed them to pieces so they couldn’t make any more noise. Her life had changed that day and never was the same after that. She had sworn that any Kal’dorei as well as any of their allies would pay for what happened to her mother. Even when someone would call her Ky, her mother’s nickname for her, it would bring up the terrible memories of what had happened that day.

Kyliska walked slowly in the rain. It felt like that had happened just yesterday, the same weather, the same wind chimes. She felt for her mother’s necklace that the Kal’dorei was looking for that fateful day. She always wore it around her neck. She was still searching for those Kal’dorei and she wanted to know why they wanted this necklace so badly. She would never give it to them, but she would make sure they all paid for taking the one person she cared most about in this world. Now there was nothing for Kyliska to live for. Only revenge.
